Here are a few Firefox addons I couldn't live without.
An irc client far less bloated than mIRC, and in my opinion easier to get to grips with too. This makes following links to irc clients from within Firefox extremely easy, and extremely fast.
This one goes without saying. Banish entire sets of adverts from your favourite pages, permanently - a great way to save bandwidth, and avoid eyesore.
An extension which compliments the download manager Flashget - this is essential if you want to download all of the items on one page, selectively by extension, or by pattern. Firefox's built in download manager is lacking in many respects; Flashget surpasses it in a number of ways.
Puts a little icon in your browser's status bar which allows you to view how many emails are in your gmail inbox, and quickly check the subject and sender of each one. I didn't think I'd need this when I first tried it, but now I couldn't browse without it.
Emulates internet explorer. If you're a web developer - or even if you've just dabbled in web design - you'd be mad to go without this addon; being able to quickly switch to how Internet Explorer sees your page is one of the most useful things ever.
The complete features of this are too many to list: put simply, it makes tabbed browsing infinitely more powerful. This allows you to middle click empty tab space to reopen closed tabs, reorder your tabs, highlight new tabs which have not been viewed, change the order tabs open when you close your current tab - the list is endless.
If you've ever used Regular Expressions, you'll appreciate how useful being able to test them in real time is. If you haven't - well, this definitely isn't one for you.

Oooh, don't forget:
No Script - A plugin that blocks java and flash in web pages unless you whitelist the site, great security add on.
Greasemonkey - Modify webpages to make them perform better, or look better (look up Gmail and greasemonkey to see what I mean!)
FoxyProxy - Great for accessing the workplace's (or in my case, the school's) proxy server without needing to type the IP address into the settings menu everyday
My faves:
